Software asset management starts with information quality. Before optimisation, organisations need a workable view of what software exists, who owns it, how it is acquired, how it is used and when commercial decisions arise.
The first pass does not need to answer everything. It should identify the highest-value information gaps, establish practical ownership and prioritise renewals or areas of duplication. Governance improves as records become part of normal procurement and review activity.
General information is not a substitute for advice on a customer’s specific contract, licensing position or procurement context.
